I've been using an electric smoker (Smokin' It 2 -- highly recommend) for about 5 years in rain, shine, snow, cold, whatever mother nature would throw at me. Just bought a Louisiana pellet smoker and knowing (I think) how sensitive the pellets are to moisture, can you/do you smoke in the rain? I'm guessing you need to keep the hopper covered while you're filling it but other than that, any thing else you need to think about?

I leave my pellet grill uncovered in the elements year round, and run it during heavy rains - never had a problem.

Mine is under a overhang on my deck. If it's a light rain it stays dry, but a heavy rain with wind will soak it. I've cooked in rain storms and snow storms. Never a issue.

I would just try to keep the pellets as dry as possible. If its raining I will put up an umbrella and keep the smoker underneath it.
