I have been using chunks in my #3 because I can't keep the AMNPS or AMNTS lit and just have not had the time to experiment. I always have pellets around and really like the pmc so I was thinking of ordering the chip insert for the firebox and trying pellets. I think the smoker is tight enough that they wouldn't flare up. Just wondering if anyone has tried this.

I think you would be ok, I've read of others using pellets with success. I've used the AMNS with some success by placing it as close to the intake hole as possible. My latest run I filled 3 rows and 2 burned very well b4 going out. Not sure if that was the #3's fault or just a fluke with the AMNS load. The chip insert just keeps pellets from falling through the holes in the wood holder? Maybe a piece of extruded metal in there, like a cage, would work just as well? Just a thought..
