I have the smoke pro SE and for 30$ i was able to get the plug and play digital readout with port for meat probe. So basically i turned my SE into a STX for 30$.  So far its been good and im still learning it and its quirks but over all i really like being able to just set it an go about my business or even put something in overnight without the hassles of babysitting it.

The ash cup is nice but to be honest a lot of ash still gets in the bottom of the unit anyway because of the fine dust (and it sounds like it has a fan but could be the feed system) but it does not ever get up into the cook chamber with the food. And its simple to take out a couple trays and just shop vac the bottom of it and I dont know for sure but other manufactures are prob just as simple but for sure research it. So if you find one you like/can afford and has good reviews dont let not having the ash cup deter you.

To be honest I like the ash cup but the real reason for the camp chef is the fact that i have used them for years and along with that fact the price is right. I will eventually upgrade or jut buy the sear box for mine as its nice to have and not have two separate units. Plus i assume the hopper/feeder system is pretty much the same on all of them so mine is prob pretty similar the the whirlwind without the extras that come with the whirlwind.
