acquired a turkey fryer and the peanut oil it came with was never opened, my question is does peanut oil go bad. dont know how old the oil is that is why im asking.

Any cooking oil can go bad over time, they do have a shelf life, so yes it can go bad and become rancid. If it's been sealed, unopened and stored out of the sun it will last longer. When you open it take a good wiff and see how it smells, if it smells clean it's probably okay.

My saying with food has always been, when in doubt, pitch it out.

Oil will go bad over time. Open the container an give a sniff, ifin it smells like oil an not some dead animal yer more then likely in the clear. Now I know I'm gonna catch alota flack on this, but I've gone ta usin vegetable oil fer the turkey fryer with excellent results, BUT, you have ta watch the temps, ifin ya let it get to high it will burn. Vegetable oil is lots cheaper then peanut oil. Good luck an enjoy the fryer!

I think peanut oil is recommended used for frying turkey's because of it's high smoke point, a lot less chance of a newbie catching the fryer or yard on fire.
