I was walking thru Walmart and an Ok Joes offset Smoker caught my eye. This was back in March when Walmart starts stocking Summer items.

I really liked the quality.

$799. Four of them sat there all summer until last week. I thought nahh $300 max. Ain’t no $800 smoker.

So I asked the manager if he’d check the price maybe it’s wrong. Nope, $799.

I turned to walk away. He then told me to watch for the Christmas merch Shipping containers to be stacked up in the lot, they discount the bbq’s then.

Day later: There they were:View attachment 677110
Walked into Walmart ,, 3 of the Ok Joes gone, one left $197.

Rung it up loaded in the truck.

Did a couple tri tips and a few back sides.
All new learning than the Red Box.

I love smoking meats and I learn something every time. This time I learned if ya don’t have patience and perseverance ya got no business smoking meats.
ggod buy. now for the mods.
I've had an OK Joe Reverse flow on marketplace with all mods done fo $250. You wouldn't believe the idiot replies I have received. Pretty good chance none of the F#$%kers have ever used a stick burner. Image before mods

Using it I quickly learned the grill temp can be 50 to 30 degrees less than the thermometer. That of course is way important when smoking.

Bingo. Target does have the babes but yes... they went goofy. Walmart not so much, and lets not even talk about Kmart :emoji_laughing:. I too loathe wally world, but money gets tight sometimes.
Now it's Trader Joes. Fine looking babes working and shopping there.

I may have to start watching for the shippin containers in the lot. Might be able to score some BBQ stuff at a good price. Like others have said, I'd rather lose a limb as to go to Walmart on the regular. But for some things I will armour up (at least in my neck of the woods) and venture in.

Accessories too. I got several of those vegtable/slice link then smoking cages. Man O man they are SOOOO brutally expensive I always passed on them but really wanted them. Walmart had them on make-Christmas-space-available clearance $7 each.

I was at my Walmart tonight and went outside to see what they had there. No luck. They did have a few different cookers on sale but nothing worth buying. It's not like I needed one but if they had something like you got it might be worth it.

We have a 24 hour kitchen at the house. Nurse wife works nights so is up on days off, daughters same, other kids up early or stay up late.

Dishwasher runs twice a day, stove always in service, I leave ribs in the crockpot self-serve and they hold up well.

I do the same with the COSTCO Bacon and Pineapple sausage. Smoke the links, then slice, brown on the flattop and sauce and leave in the crock pot. I didn't think I'd get any takers but the family raves over them.

By mistake I put 1/4 cup of the Japanese BBQ sauce in my home made batch. Oh brother did it get good takes.

I never mentioned the mess up,, but the family and neighbors noticed a change and said it was amazing.
I never confessed.

A few years ago around Christmas time I picked up a 22 in Weber with the ash bucket for $125 and thought it was a mistake by a stock clerk.
Now I guess it was a sale with no visible markdown on it.
Those things must be made of platnum these days, glad i got It while the getting was good.
