I moved a large amount of meat from the freezer to my fridge thursday to smoke up on sunday...a pork shoulder, some sausage for fatties, a beef roast and a package of chicken breasts. About 12 hours before smoke-time, and I just found most of the meats are still frozen. I got them on the counter for now to give them a boost, but I might be startin' late I thinks.

I have good luck with just cold water you can either run it under the tap or let it soak in it dont know how it works but its better than hot water.
Good Luck and Good smoking

I have been known to rush a defrost under water myself. Just keep it under the water and when it get ice cold add a little hot to keep it at room temperature.

Here's another suggestion.....

Place the larger cuts, one each, into a paper grocery bag and fold shut the opening. The bag will use the cool from the inner portion of the meat to keep the outer portion cool as it defrosts and will thus discourage bacteria growth.

If you have several smaller cuts of meat, say chicken legs and fatties. put them all together in the same bag. Everything will defrost much more rapidly, evenly and safely!

Cheers!

doesn't it take like 24 hours per pound to thaw out frozen meat? i always buy my brisket a day or two before i plan on smoking it. i just keep it in the fridge. if i want something i have in my freezer, i place it in the fridge with an extra day to thaw.

Methinks the SmokeWatcher has a very cold freezer and a too cool fridge. Just a thought.

I have to adjust my refrigerator seasonally. From 90's in the summer to forty below in the winter.

Now that's a fun thing to do!

Cheers!

I have good luck with cold tap water in the sink, change water out every 20 min. or so. it only takes a couple hours to thaw. Never use any hot water to thaw meat.

It's making good progress now. it might be time to adjust my freezer and fridge again. I'm sure (hoping) it'll be ready by morning.

Well....I pulled everything out of the fridge and it seems to be thawed out enough. Now to wake up enough to get motivated.

I've had good luck with the cold tap water one.I just fill the sink up with cold water and drop it in. After about 20 minutes, I let some of the REALLY cold water out and add some more tap water.
