Just finished building my fridge smoker and now I find this forum. Thought Id share some pics and info for your critique and entertainment. I started with a 60's westinghouse, used a 30lb propane tank for a firebox, 4" exhaust pipe from the box to the fridge, a section of the channel that ran up the rear of the fridge for a heat/smoke spreader, universal grates, sheet metal to replace all plastic in the interior, 3" exhaust pipe for a chimney, and a budwiser tap handle because I liked it. I have not settled in on a therm yet so I'm just using a multi-meter with a temp probe for now and I will still need to make a latch for the original lower door to keep kids hands away from the firebox.

Its been very good, no leaks in the firebox or the fridge and the temp has been very controlable.  I expected to have temp varaiations in different parts of the smoker but am pleased to say it is completly uniform.  So far happy but I have my first pork butt in there now so Ill let you know in about 10 hours.

Hey Blacksheep.

Nice job on the smoker !!

I just picked up the same exact smoker.

Pretty cool.

Question for you. Where did you find your greats for your shelving.

T Erwin, Sorry I took so long getting back to this post.  I just used universal grill grates I picked up at my local hardware store.  They seemed alittle light duty but have held up very well.
