Sup All,

So had to go see the new top gun in a theater. I was 16 when the original came out.

Goin to see it in Cinemark XD. I was gonna go Imax as it's 75 wide x 59 high but with the hassle of parking in downtown sacramento and the fact it's 23 years old, and digital not laser I decided to go with the XD. Anyone have experience with either? I haven't been to a movie since 2003 matrix movie lol. Will try and get some pics and give a review of the theater

We don't have a IMAX even close but we have a "Big D digital" with killer sound...... It was impressive for sure! A large % of the flight stuff was filmed with IMAX cameras so and I believe that would be the best if you can swing it......

Big D digital
Sounds like RPX and XD.. We don't have any AMC's here I don't think. Mostly cinemark and regal theaters. How did you like the Big D? That sounds about the same as what I am goin to. I know the screening I' am goin to only has 59 seats I think so that's interesting.

No IMAX here. Debut here was at the drive in theater. Sound comes through your car radio. I’m sure it will be in local theaters but no IMAX. Probably just wait and watch it at home.

Most IMAX are only 6.1, but the front output is off the chart. I have been in many different IMAX theaters and the picture is just enveloping.

The Big D has better sound for surround affects but the picture isn’t as impressive. The trick is (I have progressive glasses) so sitting closer gives the IMAX screen feeling but I’m looking through the right part of my glasses and the digital is more crisp so you can sit closer.

We have a 89” 4K with a 4K Denon receiver with 5.2.2 klipsh Atmos (ceiling) in the house and it blows most regular movies houses away.... the exception is the Big D and the IMAX.

Oh we have gone to a ton of regals and The higher end regal is equivalent to the Big D. Once the flying starts you will forget we’re you are so enjoy!

I Got back a bit ago. I did a sperate how I liked the movie post. The theater I went to is also about 23 years old though I don't know how old the XD technology is and the seats are 100% new lol. The last movie I saw was same theater and it looks exactly the same building wise. The seats were plush leather or leather like, heated and you could lean back and have a leg rest at the touch of a button. Was comfortable for about two hours and I can't sit long. Screens supposed to be Imax size but I don't know. I haven't seen Imax so I can't relate. There were 10 rows of seats I guess about 170 as a round figure that's close. Way roomier than when I went in 2003 and they still had them uncomfortable red nasty theaters seats that barely rocked LOL.

Sound was pretty good. I am more hard of hearing now than I was in 2003. Last time I went I remember it being uncomfortably loud at times. Made my cloths kind flutter at times lol. I though it was awesome.

I guess I will have to try the real Imax in town to see if it really is different. They use digital though i wish it was the laser. It was ok I wasn't supper amazed lol. i did sit in the 3rd row which wasn't real close but not real far probably an 8th row of a normal theater. i was originally gonna sit in the 5th row but it seemed too far from me. i wanted the "big screen" view. might have been a tad better visual quality if I had been back further but I liked it.

Pre-ordered the 4k version for my 7.1 sound system plus I have the electric recliners with rumble packs so I'm ready to see Top Gun Maverick at my house.

Ford vs Ferrari was better at my house than the theater, this should be as well.

Went over the weekend and saw Maverick. The movie very much followed the formula. But the flight scenes blew me away.

Yeah, I liked the sound lol actually made my pants move at times was cool. Sometimes it's just nice to get out to be honest. Having only 11 people in the theater was fkin awesome lol. Still want to see an IMAX movie someday to see how different it is.

My wife and I originally saw the movie a few nights before it opened to the public at a screening a buddy hooked me up with in the IMAX theater. The IMAX screen is 100' wide by 4 stories tall. The sound system is honestly more impressive than the screen, and the screen is flat out AMAZING!!!

Then a few nights ago we saw it in the same theater, but it wasn't on the IMAX screen, this theater has 4 different screen/ viewing options. We went on a night where movies only cost $6.00 all day/night, so it wasn't nearly as fun to watch, actually I almost fell to sleep, go see it in IMAX if you get the chance, it carries that movie in all honesty.

Cup holders!

Me and hubs used to joke about our deciding factor when buying something was "but does it have a CUP HOLDER?".

I havent been to a theater in years ,we bought Maverick and have watched it a couple times and thinking I need to watch it again lol , very good movie my $ was well spent

I watched it last night on Paramount+. Tom Cruise sure knows how to make a movie - he cuts no corners, the flight scenes were fantastic, and Jennifer Connelley is fricken beautiful.
