Howdy!

I've searched for the answer to my question but I can't find it.  I'm designing an island to put my grill and Traeger in...

Question is:  What brand, rating, etc... insulation should I use under the smoker belly?  The insulation should be right up against the belly and enclosed within the island/cart.  I will also insulate the top with a welding blanket.

Here's a simple 3D model of the concept.  The front panels are removed for clarity.

The orange box underneath the smoker represents the attachment area.

question for ya. Why are you insulating it?

A insulation you can use is CeraTex 3180 Ceramic Fiber Blanket rated for up to 2300 degrees

it is expensive but might do the trick

Trying to stabilize the chamber temp? I saw an egg cart build on here where the guy was insulating the cavity around the smoker. Thought it was the thing to do

I have used the ceramic fiber blankets for insulating and love them but they are pricey. Another option is Roxul AFB Mineral Wool

It is relatively cheap and a lot of guys that build stumps clone cookers like to use it around their coal chutes and they can get very very hot in the lower 6" of the chute. (1000°+ using a stoker)

I have some of it in my clone where I ran out of ceramic wool blanket and it seems to do a good job.

In my opinion, the only reason to insulate would be if you were having issues with low temps or the material around the chamber is at risk of being scorched. It is my understanding that typically the only reason a chamber would not get up to temp would be if it was exposed to the wind or ambient temp was low i.e 50 degrees or lower.

How this helps
