Good evening all,

First post on the forum, but I'm sure not the last given how addicting this is. Just got a new Pit Boss Copperhead Series 5 vertical smoker. I was assembling it today and noticed that the hole for the grease tube from the inside gray steel cabinet did not match up with the outside black steel cabinet. I contacted Pit Boss, and the solution they offered was to apply a ring of high temperature caulking to prevent grease from dripping in between. For this, they would compensate me a gift card on their website.

Anyway, does anyone have experience with high temperature caulking and can suggest one? Also, I feel like placing some kind of tube or ring between the 2 parts of the cabinet would be ideal to prevent grease from dripping between as well.

I saw this on Home Depot's site, but wasn't sure if this was the way to go or not.

Any help would be great! Thanks!

have any better pics? or can you post full image cant tell by the thumbnails

The red or grey high temperature silicone will work. Is there a tube between the inside of the cabinet and the outside skin? If they don’t line up I would get a 1/2 round file or a rasp for lack of a better name and line them up. Then silicone and replace the tube...

flatbroke if you click on the thumbnails that enlarges them,I like red but get the highest temp available to seal it but if you do will that allow moisture to be trapped between the walls?

Is the photo on the left taken from the bottom of the smoker looking up? Not sure what the blue is. if it is From what I can see it doesn't appear to be an issue, since the drip pan lip is inside the drain hole and not the other way around. Not much fluid gets in the drain on my smoker. almost all of it is deposited in the water pan.

Thanks for your suggestion! I ended up finding some high heat caulk at a local BBQ store and used it, but then the Pit Boss control panel was dead on the unit despite trouble shooting with customer service, so I ended up returning and exchanging it. Hopefully this next unit is better.
