Hello all,

My name is Mike and I'am all the way down in freezing Miami,FL (sorry northerners jk), I was given a smoker for Christmas and immediately began to scour the internet for tips and tricks as my experience with smoking was non-existent, I stumbled across this forum and right off the bat I was at least able to get my first 2 smokes under my belt with fairly good success. I did some chicken wings and then a couple racks of ribs which came out awesome. I have a Masterbuilt 2 door propane smoker and I purchased a Thermapro TP-08 thermometer to go with it. Judging by what i have read on here, I'am running into some common issues that I will have to make some modifications on. 1) wood chips burning to quickly 2) maintaining consistent low temps. I'am going to try the cast iron mod first and see how that works, also thinking about purchasing a new regulator as many have recommended, just a little hesitant as i have read that these are high pressure regulators and my smoker is low pressure. All in all I'am still having fun with this entry level smoker and I have a feeling I now have a new addiction. Any other advice you all have for this newbie would be great, real glad I found this forum and I look forward to all the knowledge available on this forum. Take care everyone.

Welcome to the forum. I also have this smoker. One thing I noticed was you said you're using chips. You should be using chunks of wood. Which will burn slower.

Welcome to the board! Looks like you're off to a great start.

My sister lived out west in Kendall for a few years. Back then that was at the edge of town but I'll bet it has been built out a few miles farther by now.

Miami is a fantastic town for a foodie to explore grocery shopping as an adventure. Grab something spiky from the produce department and use it to kill whatever is crawling out of the seafood case. That's fresh!

One thing - they lived in a multi-story apartment building, and in Dade County you can't have a grill on your balcony. I don't know if an electric smoker would be legal (maybe you can tell us?) but the complex had big grills in the common areas between buildings. Like you'd see in a park.

Thanks guys, Steve i will definitely try the wood chunks in place of chips makes sense it would have a slower burn. Blue I also lived in west kendall for several years, it still is considered the edge of town especially when you get out near krome ave. bordering the everglades. Before i bought my house I was a renter as well and that was one of the worst things was not being able to have a grill on a balcony, the electric smoker would probably not be allowed also but im sure people would try. Thanks for the welcome guys.
