Has anyone noticed a difference in vacuum sealer bags?

I have been using "out of air" sealer bags. They claim the are 4 mil vs 3 mil for most brands. In looking on amazon today, I noticed I can get 100' rolls of 8" for about $6 less per roll. Just wondering if anyone has had bags they were not satisfied with or if they are all about the same.

I've found that large rolls have a lot of wrinkles at end, and are difficult to get some to seal.

I just bought another batch on amazon. it was my second go-round with these. $7.99 for 50 quart bags. all have worked fine. the only thing I miss is a place to label, but sharpie marks them fine.
I took a chance, but had to put gas in my truck too. I did 10 bags of pulled pork with my Inkbird suck machine and all vacuumed and sealed properly.

When you say "noticed a difference", do you mean from the bags of 10 years ago vs. today? Or different bag brands? It wouldn't surprise me if the thickness has gotten ever so much thinner...almost everything has been "shrinkflated", but with newer technology, they may be able to make thinner bags just as strong and effective.

I have had no problem with the rolls except they are to big to fit my foodsaver that has storage and pre-seal and cut feature. I have to take another inner roll core/tube (I'm a pack rat and have saved stuff like that) and make two rolls out of one, smaller in diameter.

I do recall getting to the inner most part of the first original roll that it was wrinkled like Bruce said. I dont recall having to toss any, but it was probably a bit aggravating. Haven't gotten to the core of the second roll to see if its repeated but will soon. I just re-ordered, so that means its getting close.

Not really, just noticed options getting thinner each year it seems.

I have a roll but rarely use it. A long time ago I switched to 8x12 inch pre-cut bags because they were more cost effective, more efficient with time (don't have to cut and seal), and they work great as "hey here is a birthday/Christmas present suggestion for me that I always need" :D

Precut bags seem to work much better. I buy the food saver bags. Amazon has a couple quart options, one seems more expensive, but if you read the reviews the cheaper ones fail way more…made in a different foreign location I forget where.

I use mostly Foodsaver rolls, but haven't had any issues with the generic brand that WM sells.

Same here .. Food Saver at WM... But they also shrinkdified the rolls from 20' down to 15' ... but yet the same price ... 16-17 bucks for 2 rolls... I use both, 8's and 11's... The problem with rolls is now you have two seals on one bag... So twice the oppurtuniy for a leak...

reviving this thread. I just took some stew meat out of the freezer sealed in one of these bags.
noticed a dribble in the sink. picked up the bag a squeezed. bottom seal had a leak. not that i would sous vide stew meat, but a tri-tip would have been ruined if I tried to sous vide it.
tried looking at our sponsors bags, but when i went to check out and had a $24 shipping charge for 50 bags cancelled out. back to square one.

Just buy bulk rolls and make your own bags. Double seal the bottom when you make the bag, then double seal the other end after you have sucked it down. I buy bulk rolls off Amazon and never have leaks.

We buy rolls and pre cut bags made by Vacmaster. My wife likes the rolls, I like the pre cut bags... lack of patience on my part. Plus I figure the little extra it costs to buy them as pre cut saves 1/2 as many seals. Could probably find cheaper but these are from a small local restaurant supply store... buying local from a small town store is worth it to me.

I use Vaccuum Sealers Unlimited bags from Lisa, here on the forum. I have found them to be far superior to anything else I've tried and buying them in bulk really saves me $$. I like the variety packs, because I never know what I may need. You can find her posts under equipment, and she frequently has a monthly discount code for forum members.

Ive been using the FoodSaver bags for years and they rarely lose the seal…very rarely. The premade bags work better than the rolls for sure and I always set the Dry/Moist setting to moist.
