I just have to tell you how much I love my new foodsaver vacuum sealer. It does a great job, it's easy to use and is very sturdy. I've already used in on meatloaf, sauages, turkey, chicken and salmon.

It's going to be very easy to justify a full smoker from now on.

If you don't have one I would recommend it highly.

What model of Foodsaver did you buy? I see the 845 on sale from Foodsaver for 79 bucks. Seems like a good price.

tho i think it was a bit cheaper than that....on sale 180 i bleive......been so long....

I have the WalMart cheaper version - but I don't use the jars anyway.

I think Amazon.com ahs some cheaper than WalMArt right now and if you click through the smoking meat store Jeff gets credit for a sale ...

you would be surprised, works great keeping the deejaydebi smoked nuts nice and fresh!!!!! I keep them in quart jars and the jar sealer works awsome.....about the only thing still working great on my old foodsaver unit.....all three units at walmart ONLINE have the port for the jar's and all.......but they start at 98 bucks. Costco usually has a full setup for around 160 including bags and their special jar's and all......

Not sure if you all have Big Lots stores around where you are but I have found the bags there several times and usually for about half price. I looked at the Wal Mart brand the other day but you got 2 rolls that were each 8 feet long for about $8.50, the food saver brand was one roll that was 22 feet long and about $10.

I love my foodsaver..especially when getting larger portions of meat at Costco..just divide and freeze! Now that I'm starting this awesome smoking thing, this will come in real handy for leftovers...(is there such a thing when you smoke!!!!). Got my foodsaver at Costco..came as a package deal...the unit, 3 plastic jars, and a crap load of bags...well worth the investment!

I just another one off of e-bay for around 40.00 bucks. It's the V2460 model. My last one never died, I just felt sorry for some one who didn't have one at all soooooooo. But I swear by them, I have the marinate bowl (I can't think of the right name) I use for steaks and chicken parts. That works great too.

mine is dying, well the heat element section is at least....but then again the dang thing is 13 years old so what do you expect???

I was at big lots and found a food saver on sale for 30 bucks it was so cheap because it didnt have any bags but for that price I bought the bags and still came out money ahead.doing some spares ribs on sat I have vaccumed up now with rub .when I opened the box it was a model 370 instead of 300

Smoked mine has the hose thingy but I don't have the jars. Didn't think I used them but nuts might last longer now that you mentioned it.

For those wanting one, try Foodsavers web site. I did that trying to get another ops manual (no avail) for the one I got at Costco several yrs ago. Found out they do make several different models, but make the same model and put different model #s on them. Good example is the ones sold by Costco. Model # is just for Costco, but same machine at other stores will have another model # on it.
