Too much lump. And it took 1 hour.
I set my IQ 120 for 250 and after a short nap the pit was 400!! Gets hot really fast. But the roast was awesome

Congrats on the Akorn. That's a heck of a deal.

Start with a very small fire. I use alcohol soaked cotton balls lighting just a couple briquettes. I don't use lump in the Akorn. I have also used the snake method to very good success with the Akorn. The Primo XL oval makes more sense to me than the egg. It is very important to catch your temps on the way up in the Akorn. Start shutting down the intake early.

Here's a snake in the Akorn being lit with cotton ball. This set up gives you great temp control for at least 5 to 6 hours.

I have done a gasket mod to the intake assembly which helps a lot.
