Doing my first cook on the Camp Chef ZG Pellet Smoker and I am interested in how consistent the temps should be. I put a ThermPro wireless probe in the smoker with the grill grate clip. My smoker is set to 225 degrees and my temps fluctuate mainly from 230-250 up and down. I take it this is just natural with how the pellets are fed into the firebox? Or is this range of temps too wide and it should be more consistent? Thanks

I don't think that's too much fluctuation. That's 240 +/- 10. Your built in temp controller may be off a bit. Try setting the smoker to about 215 and see what the results are. New users need to tweak things to suit the ambient conditions. Besides, the range you report is within ~5% of the mean, pretty good.

I would mess around with the controller setting. Unfortunately, my smoker can only be set in 25-degree increments 200, 225, etc.

Most of them swing 20-30 both ways and is probably by design as the smoke is better at lower temps, your set point will be about the middle so the target temp is averaged out. when warming it up you may see wider numbers but doubt you have any problem

Also I have found the warmer it is outside the smaller the swings and the pellets will also influence the swings
