As the title says, how does this firebox throat design look? Any issues with it? I know they normally face towards the front, but this one is facing towards the top. Is that potentially good or bad on an offset?

It will force heat up for sure. I imagine it will be a top down smoker set up like that. I am no smoker builder but just my thought on that. Are you looking to buy this? Could you get a fire going and test it to see what kind of temps you get? Also where is the stack location? Is it at grate level or up higher? That can make a difference in how it performs also. More pics are good to see the rest of it, Haha!

Also see this is your first post. Jump over to roll call and introduce yourself. This a great site with tons of great people and amazing knowledge!!

I actually already own this smoker. It's a 120 gallon and I've had it for about a year, and have smoked a lot on it. The reason I'm asking is because I'm looking into getting a 250 gallon built by the same builder, and he designs his fireboxes for 250's the same. The smoker has been great, and I don't have issues running it between 250-300°. I think it does tend to run a little hotter, especially if you're not careful with the size of the fire you build. I never really thought about this design before this, compared to other fire boxes, so that's why I'm asking. The stack is at grate level as well.

That's the smoker. 6" diameter smoke stack and a semi-insulater firebox.

Damn That is a nice smoker! I would love to own that. I'm using a Chargriller grand champ which is nothing like what you have there. But I run it similar in that I like it as a top down smoker, for what I do it always works good. If that is working good for you I would think the 250 will work also. I like that design!!
