Experience with an Orvis Stream Thermometer?

Okay, I know this seems strange.  But with fly fishing and smoking as my two hobbies, there was bound to be an equipment overlap at some point!  Take a look at this item, please - imported, true, but with the Orvis name, it may be above average, and the price is certainly attractive.  It registers up to 250 deg. and one review says he uses it for cooking.  Your thoughts?
