Actually there is one thing you smoke totally by time and not temp. at all.
RIBS!!!!! I think what alot of people are wanting is an approximate cook time for different things they haven't smoked before. That way they can plan about how much time it will take to prepare a meal. I have asked before on things I haven't done before. Not to get an exact time but an idea and it does help out alot . With the price of things I don't want to screw up an expensive piece of meat if I haven't ever tried smoking it before. Just my .02 worth.

I have seen the value of having the question asked. It's a good thing. And I have seen the value of #4 as well.

As you and all regs here know I try to at least welcome all new folks, and if I can give a quick answer to a question, I do.

And it IS refreshing to see others answer questions, especially the mundane/old saw types that get to wearing on me. Forgive my impatience.

Once again.

I may develop a standard file that I send to some, if this is not against the rules. I have posted links to Smokyokie's brisket, the preburn post and the time rant like eleventyseven times in the last month. Just for efficiency's sake.

the question of time, that precious unbuyable comodity which we run are life around these days on a schedule. i can block out x amount of time for this or that. but there are things not predictable and cooking times are one. simalar to electronic problem on your car. well need to troubleshoot the problem and depending what the problem is will dictate time. so are the variables in smoking meat. what temp is meat at to start, how big, howconsistant temperature maintained, how windy, ambient air temp, just to name a few. i can see why this question gets the treatment it does. but it is a good thing as well, the ones who dont want to answer an unanswerable question are pushing members to the search function and the ones who do still keep people on the rite track so safe food is being made in our backyards. so whether you answer or how you answer a service is still being provided to help guide new smokers who havent traded in there watches for thermostats. my .02.
