I got a master built 30" electric smoker for Christmas along with tons of different wood chips, marinades, and sauces. I would love to learn how to cook ribs, brisket, sausage etc but don't know where to start for step by step instructions. Please someone send me in the right direction or maybe even a book to start with.

Thanks,
-Lee

Hi Lee!

to SMF!!! We're happy you found us! You've come to the right place, we have over 45,000 members who just love to share their experience and over 900,000 posts describing it! The search bar at the top can be your best friend when you are trying to find answers to your questions but you can still ask too if you want!

You might want to check out Jeff's Free 5 day E-Course, it will teach you all the basics plus a whole lot more!

My advice is to pick one thing to start then research it on here, this is probably your best resource!

I noticed you mentioned ribs first and they really are real easy, most of us use the 3-2-1 method for ribs and it is almost foolproof, You can read all about it right here:

Chicken and pork butts are real easy too, so just search it on here and you will find everything you need to know. I would get a few smokes under my belt before i tackled a brisket, they can be a little tricky and it's best to know your smoker and doing the easy stuff first will get you and your smoker well acquainted!

Lee,
Welcome. Everything you want to know is here. Learn to use the search engine and you're good to go. Lots of folks will chime in with great advice. S2k9k has you set up for ribs with the 3 2 1 method. Take the free 5 day course. Here's my 2 cents on basics ....
Use a gentle thin blue smoke (tbs) as a common mistake for beginners is to oversmoke. And be sure to season that smoker before your first cook. All the best and happy smoking.
