Hi all I'm new to the forum and have been doing some research to figure out which smoker to buy. Sadly I'm on a tight budget and forced to get it from home depot because i have a gift card I'm leaning towards the brinkmann electric gourmet over the standard ECB but had a fee questions. Is there a reason people seem to pur the vents in the bottom? I wss thinking i could just use the hole that the electric cord comes through as a vent. I would like to be able to use the electric element on occasion or maybe run a propane burner through that hole. Is that even possible? I know i have more questions I just can't think of them right now. Keeping an eye on my 2 year old doesn't help my ADD at all :) I guess i will add the rest as I remember them

I think the holes in the bottom you speak of are on the charcoal models.  I have the electric ECB, holds temp well. I have rearanged the cooking grids so that I have 3 regular grids and and one extra that fits up into the dome. I use stainless chip boxes set atop the electric element. My opinion, none better, only more expensive.
