HELLO TO ALL. I HAVE A QUESTION, DOES ANYONE KNOW OR HAVE ANY IDEA HOW TO OBTAIN PERMITS TO BE ABLE TO BECOME A FOOD VENDOR SELLING BBQ AT CAR SHOWS. I WOULD LIKE TO SET UP THIS SUMMER AT VARIOUS CAR SHOWS AND BBQ. ANYONE HAVE A CLUE WHERE TO BEGIN?

I recently looked into all of this down here in Florida... What I have found out, so far, is that the requirements can vary from county to county and I was also surprised at how many people, whom you would think "Should Know" ... Didn't have a clue and some were unable to answer questions at all.

I would need an inspection and certification for the area I would be prepping and cooking food, a business license, food vendor permit, current certification as a "Food Protection Manager",  and meet another full set of inspections, fees, & guidelines for a "Mobile Food Establishment"!!   Not to mention the insurance requirements to sell food!!!

I would start with google for your state and search "food vendor permit"  Good luck!

Thanks for the intel...Yeah your right about the people you ask should know don't. Tried google for my state but still alot of unanswered questions but I'll keep looking for info starting with what you mentioned...Good luck to you...Big Thanks

NP, hope it helps alittle!  I am still building my smoker, so at least I got something to do in the mean time...  Best of luck to you as well!

What helped me the most... Might be worth a shot as long as you find a decent one to ask!  I actually stopped at a trailer selling "California Fish Tacos" and started a conversation with the guy.  He was able to tell me alot about who, what, where, why, and (for the most part) HOW!! to get things rolling.

I would start with the local health department. That is where you will get most of your permits.

Health inspections and licensing will vary from state to state. Some places go by state or county or even city. So it may vary from event to event. I ad a friend who was trying to get a food truck going and she ran into other issues not related to licensing, inspections or even permits. It was the " Good ole Boy" network. So be prepared for that as well. Not saying it will happen to you, but just be aware of it.

Good luck and keep us posted how things turn out for you..
