Good morning

I’ve always wanted to try making bacon jam.

I have searched but not coming up with much in regards to my questions. Hoping others have some input:

1) Besides burgers, how do you enjoy serving or eating it? I’m intrigued as a finger food / appetizer. Put it on a cracker of some kind?

2) Does it need to be served warm? I’m thinking of taking it to a NYE party and don’t want to have to worry about heating it there.

I don't make it, but got a jar last year, besides being good as a topping like on a hamburger or in a grilled cheese sandwich, I've put it on smoked cheese and mixed it into cream cheese to serve on crackers. Try it on baked potatoes and on grilled 1/2 onions that have olive oil and bullion for other seasonings.

I also got a jar of bacon onion jam for Christmas, but the seal was popped and I didn’t trust it. My wife didn’t open it. Ended up tossing it.

I thought about trying it poured over a block of cream cheese and serve with crackers, kinda like they do with the pepper jellys.

I’ll be picking up another jar soon, so I’m looking forward to what you use it on.

love love love making bacon jam. We use ours in various ways. Some ideas
- warm and put on top of an omelette or egg scramble
- warm or cold on toasted points
- top warm and goey Brie cheese with it
- make the best breakfast quasadillas every with this!
- add to a chicken wrap
- make the best BLT ever with it (warm)
- makes an incredible addition to grilled or smoked chicken sandwiches
-and finally one of my favorites, roll it with a good melting cheese and stuff a meatloaf with it
i probably could keep going

Thanks everyone!

Im planning on making some up in the morning. My plan is that this bacon jam will go on a board with some smoked cheese, smoked sausage, crackers, whipped cream cheese to spread and some candied jalapeños.

Guess I have been under a rock. I have never heard of the stuff. Where might a cave dweller find this goodness???

Thanks again, everyone, for the insight.

Big thanks to Steve H Steve H for sharing a recipe that I used as a base for mine.

I made a batch this morning, using 2lbs of bacon. Wow - this stuff is good! Really addicting. I’m super happy with how it turned out.

Question - I currently have it in a mason jar in the fridge. Is this stuff best served at room temp or warmed?

Bacon fried up waiting to be mixed in with the onion jam:

I'll do it both ways. On burgers it'll warm up good enough on its own. On crackers I'll let it get a bit warm. A few seconds in the microwave. For putting on eggs. I'll get it warm enough so it doesn't cool the eggs. On bagels heat it up.

That is where I got my shelf, err, fridge life from. 2-4 weeks, It never lasts that long here. 2 weeks in the fridge is usually the max. Thanks for passing that on.

Thank you for sharing. I can’t imagine having much leftover that would go past a week...this stuff was awesome. It was a hit at the
NYE party last night.

Thanks for the information. I had food poisoning a few years ago and it was brutal!!! We were in Gulf Shores, Alabama and stopped by Jimmy Buffet's sister's new restaurant, Lu Lu's. I had crab cakes. On the drive back to the condo, it hit me. It only got worse and worse. Never been that sick EVER! Since that day, I have been very careful with my personal food prep especially chicken. I had never heard of Bacon Jam until the other day on this forum. No stores here carry it. I have researched it's uses and it 's something I want to try to make until I can order online. It appears all you need to do is just keep refrigerated and use it up quickly. Happy New Year!
