I caught up on his PBS show last night and I gotta say it's pretty good. I like the fact that his ego stroking is kept to a minimum and the emphasis is mostly on the food and the guests. On one episode he entered a competition and finished mid pack, even in brisket. The general message was that comp cooking is vastly different from both backyard and restaurant cooking.
It's also a really well made show. It's filmed in a very "artsy" way and the dialogue is fun and informative.
Lastly, I kinda respect the guy for sticking with PBS. I'm sure he could have easily gotten a high paying gig on one of the big cable channels, but he chose to be on a local Texas station. Check it out if you haven't seen it, it's on the PBS website.
