Welcome to the group and good luck with the new start. I entered I'm first contest coming up this September. It's only an Amateur contest for me but it is still a KCBS event.
Welcome to the group not to far from you in DeKalb area. Looks like a rig I started with a still use from time to time. Good luck with it they do work well and keep smoking.
Welcome to the group. Air compressor tanks work great for smokers. I used one myself last year for a reverse offset and love the way it works. Cooked many slabs of ribs, couple hams, and few whole chickens. First big cook after build was a 100 pound pig that was great. Getting ready to do...
Smokers I was looking at the size I made seemed around $3500.00. I think all said and done I spent about $500.00. A few things I was given but still cheaper and built it for my height and needs. One thing I did after cutting the lid was burn the inside out. We had some pallets around my shop to...
My sons are 17, 24, and 26 the only issue I'm having is mom wants the youngest that still lives at home to go to church that morning. He is the one really looking forward to it and he could miss the whole cook. We are all looking forward to it but him and I talked about it the most to start. He...
I used a 125 gallon air compressor tank. It has two racks and made a 18 x 20 fire box. Work very well gets to temp and holds it nicely. I smoked a 100 pound whole hog in last June and had room left for Two 15 pound Briskets also.
I'm doing it with my 3 sons and it's just a one day deal. We only entered the amateur contest of the Firin Up The Fox in St. Charles IL. this September. Only have to cook Ribs and Chicken.
I've used the pans many time and not had issue of less flavor in the meat. Used them on Spiral Sliced Hams again this Easter and added Apple juice to the pan. The Ham had great smoke flavor and the juice just soaks in to make it a favorite around my house. Plus makes it a lot easier to remove...

Team BIG UGLY SMOKERS has entered it's first contest. The team of my 3 sons and myself have entered in the Firin Up The Fox to be held in St. Charles IL. this September. It will be the very first time for us. We will be cooking Ribs and Chicken only for the amateur contest to be judged under...
Welcome to the group. Even being on the road to work still nice to have good Q without having to hunt around for a place and hope it's good. Nothing better then doing it yourself and the way you like it. Good luck and keep smoking.
Welcome to the group. I hear you on the bending over part. Being 6'7" myself I had to build my own smoker to my height. I would think if you check how hot the bottom of the unit gets you could put it up on something. May have to use a stainless steel or blocking of some type. Good luck and keep...
Welcome to the group. The safe looks like it's a good size for a smoker, but as you said if the fire proofing is ok. Just wondering what heat source you are thing of going with. I would think latching the door would be an easy fix and size should be close for finding racks to put in it. Might...
Welcome to the group. I haven't really done chicken a lot but ribs take around 4-5 hours. Believe whole chicken butterflied takes about the same cooked at temp @ 225. Hope this gives you a starting point and good luck also enjoy.
Welcome to the group. Sorry to hear about the health issues been there myself. A man still has to eat thou and if you are like me and have to watch salt intake but still love flavor might as well smoke it up. I came up with my own rub less salt or no salt but other things added to make it so no...
