We survived the fire. The CZU Lightning Complex fire got less than a mile from our house. I evacuated the wife and kids and went back and was home during the whole ordeal. I worked with fire and police to make our neighborhood safe and defensible.
I have a Brinkman offset smoker that I bought in 2003 that served me well. It's time for an upgrade.
I am thinking about getting an Oklahoma Joe Longhorn reverse flow smoker. I am trying to keep the cost down. Should I look at another smoker?
I like the reverse flow a d ability to convert...
Sounds like I should hang onto it for smoking. I heat my house with wood so it would end up in the woodshed otherwise.
I'll smoke some chicken with it to see how it turns out. Maybe I'll use the olive wood for our Thanksgiving turkey this year.
yesterday I picked up two drums that are unlined. They had rubbing alcohol in them so they should be safe to use for a smoker build.
I've never built a smoker before and I am looking for help. Does anyone have experience making a side box smoker out of drums?
So in order to remove the liner do I need to get the barrel hot beforehand? Has anyone tried to remove the liner using Comet and Scotchbrite *without* heating the liner first?
I have a line on some barrels for $20 each but they are lined. If I can remove the liner easily I'll go for it. I...
I helped some friends replace old wood stoves with newer stoves the last couple of years. I took the old stoves in to a scrap yard for cash. before I brought them in a harvested the fire brick out and hung on to it. They aren't as thick as the bricks in the video but i figure they would work...
Rob,
That video was perfect. His oven/smoker is very impressive.
He didn't need to add buttresses because his oven is domed. You are proposing straight walls with a domed ceiling so you would need buttressing.
I want to have a wood smokehouse like your design with a pizza oven. Now that...
I want to stick with charcoal or wood not pellets.
I checked craaigslist and found this: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/for/d/smoke-hollow-bbq-smoker-combo/6746731359.html Is it any good?
Has anyone here designed and built a dual purpose wood fired smokehouse and pizza oven? What I have in mind is to build a wood fired smokehouse similar to the one archeryrob built. He has lots of pictures here: https://archeryrob.wordpress.com/?s=smokehouse&submit=Search
Over the firebox I...
I currently have a Brinkmann smoke 'n pit offset barrel smoker. I doubt it gets really good reviews here but I got in on clearance in 2003 for less than $100 and I have had great results ever since. I have the same model as in this video:
As I like the Brinkmann it's size has always been...
I spent some time this morning reading through build threads and am looking for advice.
I want to build a smokehouse that will use wood or charcoal. I see that most builds use propane or electric heat. I use lump charcoal in my barrel smoker and I have an endless supply of oak firewood. I...
I have my Bear style double smoked spiral cut ham in the smoker. It's been in there since 11AM. Guests will be here for dinner tonight. I am looking forward to it. Thanks for posting the glaze recipe.
There was a downed bay tree in the backyard of the house we bought last summer. I pulled about 2 cord of logs out of the revine that I am cutting and splitting into firewood. Can I use the wood for smoking meat? What meats are best somkked with bay woood?
