This is a great discussion guys, I really appreciate all the opinions and links! It sounds like before I put my money down I need to take a field trip to see it in person. Brooksy, I'm happy to hear you are having success with this model of smoker. Did you have to make ant mods to it?
The company I'm looking at is HBT Welding. The model number's HBT Reverse Style 400. Here is a pic of the actual pit (minus the diamond plating). Have you heard of these guys?
I've marinated, wrapped, injected, ... you name it. The best ribs I've made so far are super simple: smoke bone side up with a standard rub @ 250 for 4 hours. I found the marinating was more work than it was worth.
I've been doing my research on competition pits and the company I think I'm gong to purchase from just changed over to diamond plate metal. Is there any benefit to this or is it just a fad?

Standard Metal
Here is my UGLY drum smoker. It is a one and one third 55 gallon drums. The top section has 4 racks. The bottom 1/3 drum is the fire box. The handles are from an old ECB and the shelf on the right is from my first grill :). It is my smoker of the aporkalypse.
