    I saw your post Bladbuilder so I decided to try my hand at ham. didn't have the room for a full ham so I did a small test. here is how it worked out using Pops brine for 14 days.

    You might want to think about making a smoke house you could put over the pit. Something small enough to move when your not smoking.

    this is my first try at CB. I used Pops brine. I found that it had a sweet taste. I think that I will use half the brown sugar next time. Just came out of brine Cooked for 4 hrs

    The Idea is to not be dependent on a smoke source that is gas or electric. I want rustic.

    cover costs and 10:00$. that's what I do since Im doing one for my family as well I come out on the upside but cust doesn't fee ripped off.

    I was leaning toward the external fire box as this will be for cold smoke only. I was looking at oak or white cedar. I agree with the 4x4x6, big enough for a couple of hams.
