As mentioned before, higher temps (300 or more) will result in a very mild smoke flavor - almost not noticeable. Many people think the smoke generated from pellet grills is not strong enough even at lower smoking temps (200-225) and these people often add an aftermarket smoke generator (like...
No need to paint the interior. Get a good seasoning on it (through normal use) and it will be fine and will not rust. I might suggest getting a Tappecue thermometer. You can monitor your meat and chamber temp from anywhere you are via your phone (it runs off wifi and is not a Bluetooth thermo...
I've heard great things about the Firecraft. I have a RT680 and love it. Had a Traeger that I won in a raffle and gave it to my mother after a few cooks deciding which one I liked better - it was no contest.
Don't get me wrong - I love Todd's products and use many of them. With that being said, there are plenty of 100% flavor wood pellets out there with no fillers. I currently use Lumberjack 100% hickory and the Lumberjack MHC blend (33% each of maple, hickory and cherry). As mentioned earlier, I...
I would tend to agree with the reviews you have read. You get what you pay for. I have a RT 680 and have been happy with it. I talked a buddy out of a GMG and into the Yoder 480 and he loves it. A GMG would get you by, but buyers remorse could set in after dealing with issues (not everyone...
Use any bbq pellets you want in any grill you want - Traeger cannot void warranty if you use other pellets - how would they know anyway???
I would recommend the GMG over the Traeger, but if you can get a Yoder delivered, I would go with that for sure over those two.
I'd recommend the RT, but I admittedly am biased. Temps are rock solid and it is much sturdier construction (which is why it is heavier). Do some reading on the wifi on the GMG's - lots of issues for lots of people. You will get some that say it's the bomb, but I can't get over the number of...
I have used Todd's pellets and they are great. I have also used Lumberjack and their was no noticeable difference.
Todd's pellets can get a little pricy, but are first rate. Not sure why you think Lumberjack are pricey - you should be able to find them for around 25 bucks a 40 lb bag. I get...
Sounds like you may be starving it for pellets. It may need a auger speed adjustment. I would call their customer service, describe to them the problem and let them walk you through the adjustments to be made.
Pellets are the only heat source. Pellets are cheap. You are paying too much buying the specialty smoke tube/maze pellets in 5 to 10 lb bags. I buy lumberjack pellets in bulk at under 30 cents per lb ($11 for a 40 lb bag). You can get in on group buys in bulk if you don't want to buy a ton...
I have been using Lumberjack - either OHC, MHC or 100% hickory. It has a light smoke taste, which I prefer, but nothing like I used to get on my gasser with chips/chunks (I honestly oversmoked a lot of that). If I am running my smoke tube, it usually has hickory in it. I definitely get more...
I feel I have plenty of smoke - some people don't. I do add an amazen tube in the bottom of my barrel (below the drip tray) when I want more smoke (like if I'm doing bacon). There seems to be plenty of air flow down there to keep it lit with the fan blowing into the fire pot. I think people...
Sautee the bacon and onions, mix them into prepared stuffing and then spread onto loin (loin is fileted open so you can spread on the stuffing and then roll up).
I've got a Rec Tec and love it. For what it's worth, RT is assembled and QC'd in the US. No issues and very solid temps. With that said, the Blazin is a wonderful grill - as is the Yoder (another American made). I don't think you would go wrong with any of the 3. I think the RT would be the...
No doubt that it is a very tedious task, but I really like the texture/look you get from it. I'll admit that my cutting hand hurt for a couple days afterwards.
