I have the BlueTherm Duo from Thermapen. I really like it. It is BT so the range isn't great, but it will plot a log of the entire cook for both the mean and the pit temps. Very accurate and the probes are more durable than the Mavs. But it also costs more than the Mavs....
I have had a Vision for 3 years now. Cooks great. I also have a Kamado Joe - Big Joe and a WSM 22.5". Temp control is the easiest on the Joe, Vision is 2nd and the WSM is third, but all are very easy. Only issue I have had with the Vision is cooking space. Just not quite big enough for me.
That...
You can do Myron's cupcake mold chicken thighs in about 3 hours. Best chicken I have ever had. The glaze at the end is just too good. Let me know if you need the recipe. I bought his book, there are several good recipe's in there. As there are in Jeff's book which I also have.
I never had the...
Yeah, I thought hard about a MAK or a Yoder, but at the end of the day, I just couldn't pass on the Elite. Can't say enough about the quality of the build and the stainless used on this thing. Great temperature control and the ability to grill at 700 deg or sear with the direct flame insert. And...
Ordered a Memphis Elite and it was delivered today. Can't wait to get home and start putting it together and get it seasoned.
Seems like a really nice grill. And a big shout out to Steve and the team at The BBQ HQ. They were super to deal with and were very competitive on the price as well. If...
Turned out great. Did two more racks on Saturday, best I have ever done. Really moist and just the right tenderness. Very easy to cook on this beast. I love it so far. Doing a pork shoulder this weekend. I will try to post some pics.
Get it, you will love it.
Here is a pic of the Big Joe with the CyberQ hooked up. Didn't open the lid for 4 hours. Temp never moved more than + / 2 deg.
And here are the ribs, baby backs are cut up, spares are not.
Just got my new smoker yesterday and smoking some Easter ribs today. Got one slab of baby backs and one slab of St. Luis Spares. I used my normal rub on the baby backs and just salt, pepper and garlic powder on the spares. Got the cooker set up for 270 deg and will just let them cook for 4 hours...
If you have one of those smoke generators of any kind, you can put it in the grill then open the top vent and use a hair dryer to blow air through the top vent and see where the smoke comes out. If you haven't found it yet.
Almost all of the Weber gas grills have a cast aluminum body. For sure all the Summit and Genesis grills do. They do cook great and last forever. No H pattern burners though.
I have a couple of the Mavs. Range is great, at least 100' even inside. The only issue with them is the probes. You can kill them by looking at them funny. I got the Thermoworks Bluetherm Duo a couple of weeks ago. After 6 smokes I am hooked. Probes are standard K thermocouples so you can buy...
Not at all. I just use disposable aluminum pans and cook uncovered. Got that tip from Myron Mixon. He cook almost all his competition meats that way. Keeps the juices in and keeps the meat moist and tender. Cleanup takes 5 minutes too.
