Never higher than 225, but actual settings depend on what I'm cooking of course. When I do a good job loading the food fast, I lose maybe 30-40 degrees and recover internal temps in about 45 min. If I do a bad job and it's cold outside, I've lost as much as 80 degrees and it's taken hours to...
Ahh ok, good feedback thanks. I will keep it lower, as 220 VAC isn't an option for me. The stock heater is 1200W, so maybe I can find a 1500 or 1650 W element that will fit the MES40. Anyone happen to have a link to one they know works?
This is to get back to temp after I put the food in. I let the smoker heat up for 2-2.5 hours, open the door to load the food, and immediately lose a lot of heat - it then takes a while to get back to the set point.
Hi all! Been a while, but I've cleaned out my old smoker and I'm ready to rock again. I never did finish 2 mods I intended to, so I figured nows the time to finally add a 2nd damper to the other side of the top (I have a MB20074719) and to upgrade the heating element. I'm using the Auber...
The brisket was good, but a challenging smoke. I'm debating a full write-up...I probably should decode my photo notes before I forget it all. Yesterday I did some chicken drumsticks over apple to give myself an easier project. They came out great, but 2.5 hrs was a little too much smoke I think...
I was able to do a very simple and nondestructive rewire that leaves all the original functionality - the interior light, the door-open warning chime, even bluetooth (as useless as it is) and the original temp. sensor. The smooth white and braided blue cables are the plug and controller neutral...
got it, thanks! I'm doing my first smoke today, and as everyone has said the MES40 fluctuates with a 20 degree range. An Auber is starting to look nice... :)
Was just thinking...do you need to rewire at all if you just tell the smoker you want max temp internally? Won't that effectively bypass the controller by using it's own logic to force it to an always-on state?
Howdy folks - originally from VT, but relocated to SoCal and picking up my first smoker (Masterbuilt MD20074719) - I think here it's called the MES40, but I really can't tell - there seem to be many options for that moniker. I have an A-MAZ-N pellet tray and a blow torch on the way, too...
