Well I got the old fashion analog oven thermometer and tried it out. It did actually track closer to what the smoker was saying it was. I don’t know why that would be but it did from 180 degrees to 300 degrees. As the team went up the delta was greater ending at 300 degrees on the pitboss and...
Well if it is true we are all being taken just a little because my Thermopor has to probes. 1 for the meat and 1 for the bar b que. However I have ordered an analog one to place in the smoker just to see what I get. I will post follow up data as soon as I get it.
This is what Pitboss told me
“Meat probes are not designed to measure ambient air temps. If you have them sitting on the grates, they will not provide an accurate reading. If you have an oven thermometer, that would be a better tool to use to measure the air temps in the grill.”
Anyone else...
Smoker empty and probe about 1” to the side and 1” forward of their probe. moving it to different heights won’t reflect what they should be reading and what the controller should be adjusting off of So I only ,ensured at that location. I have cooked meat with it a few times. The next time I use...
I have cooked a couple of good meats but I expected it to run closer to them. At least within 15 degrees.
I compared it to a Thermopro thermometer I had installed about 2” from the installed temp probe. Here are the results.
Set to 180 but heated to 203
Set to 230 but heated to 272
Set to 250...
Just wanted to fill in some information on my pitboss electric for those researching them.
Bought mine about 3 months ago. Upon receiving it I noticed that the temperature appeared to be hotter than indicated on the display. Pitboss sent me a new temp probe. This made no difference so they sent...
I have a Pit Boss. My chips never turn to ash. I figure some types will and some won’t. After mine turn black and stop smoking I empty the tray and add fresh chips. I never have worried about it. It took me by surprise at first but I just roll with it.
So they sent me a new temp probe. At 225 on their probe I am at 239. Probe is within about 2” of theirs. At 270 on their probe I am at 340. I called them back and they are sending the control board.
So do you leave the chips in until they are all chard or will eventually turn to ash? I don’t see any smoke coming out of the smoker and my chips are all black yet still appear whole for the most part.
I was adding about every 1hr to 1hr 15 min. in order to try and keep smoke going. It was 7 hours to get the meat to 185 based on an external probe I was using. I know when I would hit the smoke button after I had opened it to add water it would spike to 265 (if you can believe the reader) and...
Thanks
I know the PB temp probe that monitors the temp is off what I have it set at. I tried to use their provided meat probe but it was just dangling and was in contact with the side at times. I am hoping the inkbird (which comes with a clip for the probe will provide a better idea of where I...
I bought the Pit Boss Electric smoker and decided to try a chuck roast for my first try. I bought a 4.4 lb Angus roast. I used Cherry wood chips. I used yellow mustard and a dry rub. I tried to keep the temp at about 225 but after adding chips it would fo to 260 and back down to what ended up...
