that calculator you showed (Feldon’s) isn’t what I was referring to. There is a tutorial on the forum

I haven’t compared calculations to the Feldon. I used the tutorial here. I used 5” OD w/...
I recommend you run the calcs from this forum on the pit dimensions. Specifically look at the FB/CC area and the smoke stack. Looks like a mighty small diameter smoke stack and long.
Read Franklin’s book on smoke. Thin blue smoke is good but it isnt the holy grail. Just don’t get the thick white billowing smoke. He recommends to run the pit with stack wide open and door to firebox wide open. Control temperature with how much wood you put on the fire. For me, cutting the...
Finished my reverse flow build about 1 month ago. Not wanting to reveal my nerdy innards by performing a flow analysis through engineering software, I decided to follow the recommendations in this thread/tutorial. All I can say is that my pit is a great flowin machine. Great temperature control...
Heat transfer still occurs in a vacuum by means of radiation. You could use paint or other surface applicants with low emmisivity to minimize heat loss by radiation. Of course there will be conduction heat transfer anywhere there is metal contact as well. If you want to learn more about this...
Considering the air just outside the inlet of the firebox and the air right at the top of the smoke stack and energy balance can be made. An energy balance between these to points takes into account all forms of energy losses & additions between these two points. Energy losses can be broken down...
