Yup. The sliding thing is on a slant with the left being the highest point. It makes sense that it would be warmer there. It is an awfully thin piece of metal. I do like the option to grill directly over the firepot but a real diffuser will make a big difference. I'll check out that link. Thanks.- JFPryde
