I've owned a Weber 22.5 forever and only recently started smoking after purchasing a Masterbuilt XL propane ~6 months ago. Decided to purchase a pellet smoker a few months ago and have been cooking on my Pit Boss 820 for a couple months. Tri-tip, pizza, bread, jerky (including a second batch...
Thanks for your questions. I reached out to Pellet Pro about the burn back and they gave me a few things to try, then ultimately offered to refund my purchase price if I sent it back. I can’t say enough good things about their commitment to customer service, including quick responses even over...
Welcome to the forum, Rick. If you're still shopping for your 820, my local Lowes started selling them for $499 for the 820d, and at one point had them for $449. I also heard that Academy has them for $499 although we don't have any of those around here.
Regarding the controller, I just...
Picked up a Pellet Pro and just finished installing it. Does it constantly pulsate the fan on the 820d or am I dealing with a defect? I'd like to run it through a burn-in test but the pulsating fan has me concerned that it isn't operating properly.
Tried the Solo cup on my Pit Boss and the exhaust coming out of the grill into the grease pail was hot enough that the cup got soft and started to melt.
Just getting started with my pellet grill (two cooks so far) so I’ll defer to others on which brands/options are better. Chiming in to say that I saw my Pit Boss 820D at my local Lowe’s for $499. Bigger than the Traeger 22, slightly smaller than the 34.
Thanks to all who have shared their experiences with an 820 on this thread. I'm in the middle of my first cook on my 820 and while the temp was SOLID at the smoke setting, the 225 setting has seen temps between 210 and 255 based on the controller's reading and even wilder based on the two probes...
Definitely see them in person, if you haven’t already. I was looking at the 22 and 34 online and they looked more similar in size than they actually are. I can’t speak to the differences of the Pro versus Timberline.
Good luck with your decision!
Apparently the Austin uses a new controller versus the 700 or 820. Not sure if that's good or bad. I was at Wal-Mart today and they had the 700 for $396.
Unfortunately I can't share a lot of hard specifics which you'll find convincing.
I've known him for 30 years, and previously he was on the customer support team for Traeger, now on the customer support team for Pit Boss, so he's been on the front lines for both. He acknowledged the warranty...
I can’t comment on the comparison of the two smokers, but wanted to chime in to say that if you end up buying from Cabelas there’s a gift card store on eBay that sometimes sells $100 gift cards for $80, which may equalize the cost a bit more.
As an aside, I just purchased a Pit Boss 820 based...
