I was able to fit in 3 racks of baby backs. I used the Prime Reserve baby backs from Sam's Club. Smoker stayed right at 225 for 5 1/2 hours. Came out perfect. Got my $21 worth in one use.
I have the SmokePro DLX (PG24) and like it a lot.
You might want to use the website brickseek.com to check the prices of Wal-Mart in your area. Found a Pit Boss 700FB for a buddy of mine marked down from $499 to $200. Most of the reviews I have read were pretty good for that unit.
I guess the issue for me is the amount of increase in such a short amount of time. A $2.00 increase per # in 3 weeks and a drop from prime to choice seems to be very unusual.
So much for brisket being a tough, inexpensive cut of meat.
I guess I will wait til the prices come down. Should have grabbed those prime packers when I had a chance.
As mentioned earlier, Rural King does sell 20# bags of Lumberjack pellets for $8.99. I went to the Clearfield, PA store this weekend and got some Pecan, Oak and some Apple Blend.
Can't beat that price. A clerk at the store said they get a lot in the spring and are nearly sold out. So if you are...
Is the price of brisket skyrocketing everywhere or just in my area?
3 weeks ago I could get a prime packer at Sams club for $3.96 per #. Now they have choice at $5.98 per #. BJ's is also well above $5 per # for brisket (they only sell flats).
Anybody else seeing prices go up drastically?
I have a DLX and have found that 18" heavy duty aluminum foil works perfectly to line the grease pan on a DLX. 12" wide foil can't cover the whole tray leaving a seam the grease can run in to. Reynolds Grill Foil works very well.
