    So I'm confused

You know, I was thinking the same thing....I think I'm just putting stuff on the wrong rack. although I've smoked meats on the lower rack before just fine. (only has two racks-one directly on top of the water try and one up top under the domed lid). So I'm looking forward to trying it again...

    So I'm confused

Yeah, I've wondered about doing propane. But I really love the simplicity of my electric smoker. Water pan is full. Had an extension cord but now I've got an outlet outside so I can plug it in directly. Dunno. Will try anyway tomorrow and see. Have a back up plan just in case

    So I'm confused

Well I'm still wondering if it's because I put it on the rack right over the water pan instead of on the top rack. I just pulled the heating element out and it is HOT! (orange hot) put a meat temp thermometer on it and it was off the gauge. So are heating elements supposed to turn orange...

    So I'm confused

I've got a temp gauge in the smoker at the top which stays @195-200. I use a digital thermometer and back it up with a regular one. Both are same temp readings.

    So I'm confused

I've been having trouble with my electric smoker lately. And I'm wondering if it's simply because I'm putting my meat on the lower rack, right above the water pan. It's an older Brinkman electric kettle type smoker-constant 195 degrees F. The heating coil is fine-orange hot. The temp at the...

    Smoking steak from frozen?

Hey everyone. If you haven't tried it yet I found an awesome way to cook steak from frozen! But it involves an oven. Basically, you smear the steak with salt, pepper and olive oil on both sides, sear it for 90 seconds on each side and bake it at 175 for @50mins. If you've never tried this I...

Any tips for cooking a meatloaf in an electric smoker?

Hey SmokeTrailsteve  thanks for the info.  I'll remember that about the aluminum foil.  I actually put it on 'vented' parchment paper and smoked it on the bottom rack, right above the water pan.  I only had it on there 2 hours and it hit 170F internal temp!  So I slathered some sauce on it and...

Any tips for cooking a meatloaf in an electric smoker?

Thanks TallBM. The thermopro TP20 looks very inticing. I'll consider that. I know I"m gonna have to buy one sooner or later. And two elements (meat and surface) are really nice to have.

Advice on smoking meatloaf yet avoiding bacteria

Well guys I'm proud to say the meatloaf turned out good! I used the recipe on this site (with soaking break in buttermilk and adding two eggs). I only had to smoke it ofor 2 hours! and it hit 170! so I sauced it real quick and pulled it out. I also flattened it to only about 2 inches thick...

Any tips for cooking a meatloaf in an electric smoker?

Well quite frankly thats the temperature reading in the thermometer i installed in the lid. It didnt come with thermometer - I bought one and stuck it there. I'm thinking i should buy a second one and put it right above the bottom meat rack. I always use the water pan. I'll try a dry run...

Advice on smoking meatloaf yet avoiding bacteria

Hello Rings R Us. Thanks for the input. The only thermometer I have is in the grill lid which stays at a constant 190-195. I have to use a separate old style 'stick it in the meat' type thermometer to see what temp the meat is. I don't have a thermometer at meat level, although I installed...

Advice on smoking meatloaf yet avoiding bacteria

Hey folks, I'm still new to smoking meats. I'm wanting to try a meatloaf in my electric smoker and need some serious advice. I've smoked one brisket, and various chickens so I've got a little experience. My Brinkmann electric smoker smokes at a constant 195 degrees. My primary concern is...

Any tips for cooking a meatloaf in an electric smoker?

Hey folks, I'm wanting to try a meatloaf in my electric smoker and was needing some advice. First of all I've never done one. And secondly I was wondering 2 things about the cooking time and temperature. First is my constant 195 degrees going to cook it without having any bacteria created in...

Newb looking at smokers, could use some help

Hello Troy. Just from the looks of it I will probably buy the more expensive one. It looks like it has more room as far as surface size for smoking and I would assume it comes with a water pan but I didn't see one in the pictures. I've got an older Brinkmann electric smoker that looks similar to...

    Hello from Mid-MO.

Hey everybody my name is Carl and I just bought a very simple smoker to start out with. I was fortunate enough to find a brand-new Brinkmann electric kettle smoker at a garage sale for a $20 bill. I've already smoked a brisket, a beer can chicken and some split chicken breasts in it. It...
