Cedar and cinder block smokehouse build

I agree with you on the fire bricks, and actually planned to use them at the time, but were really expensive and I wanted to make sure the setup worked before I spent more. I plan to add them during this summer's maintenance. I also tried to season the grates, and you are exactly correct...they...

Not with the blocks; they're still going strong. I am going to reseal the blocks, but with fire mortar this time. The regular mortar lasted this long, but is starting to separate.

Thank you all! Sorry for the delayed reply, but our upper administration changed at work and we've been busy! I do want to do some cold smoking, that's for sure. My wish list includes sausage, cheeses, and once I get the hang of it...a slab of bacon.

The door was around $75 at Wilkes Badass Pits in Conroe proper. The untreated lumber came from Home Depot. There's a place in Willis off FM 830 (Near Thompson) that sells only cedar. I've never priced them, but I've heard good things about their lomber

    Smoker build.

I have seen some folks build their smoker out of plywood, but I believe they only use it to cold smoke. I'm of the school of thought that believes any fumes from glue is too much. My smokehouse is built out of cedar and cinder blocks. After running a couple of oak fires in the firebox, there is...

Smoker built from untreated pine or cedar safe??

Ralph, I just finished a cedar/cinder block smokehouse and it performseems perfectly. I ran a couple burns of oak through it to season it and eliminate the cedar scent, but I've had no issues and great results.

Cedar and cinder block smokehouse build

Merry Christmas Y'all! After many moons of trying to convince my darlin Bride that I needed a new offset smoker, she asked my why I didn't just build one. The truth is, I hadn't even thought about it until then. I've built most of the furniture in our house, yet never even considered building...
