    I may have figured it out. I put a cardboard box in front of the smoke stack. The fire now burnso hot enough to get the smoker up to 230 degrees.

    I am new to smoking meats. My instinct after much research says no though. I am not burning cedar thus no cedar smoke.the oils should not vaporize at smoking temps. Just my thoughts tho.
