MES 30 improvements on smoke consistency?

Just to be clear, smoke is TBS and beautiful. Heat control/loss is my issue. How did you attach the stack over the existing vent? Mine will not press into the smaller diameter with the vent in place. Cut and bend the elbow then screw on? Thanks.

MES 30 improvements on smoke consistency?

I originally tried it with the chip loader out 1-2" as Todd recommends and had the heat loss issue. The damper actually closes down pretty small, maybe 1/4" or so. I just did one change at a time to see effects. At least both changes are easily reversible... Can anybody else who replaced the...

MES 30 improvements on smoke consistency?

So I did the 3" elbow vent mod on my MES30 gen 2. I removed the exhaust vent as mentioned, 3 screws, and stuck the elbow in place. The A-maze-N maze works great, lots of airflow. BTW the exhaust vent fits the three holes in place of the chip loader making a nice inflow damper. But I seem to be...

MES 30 Gen 2 side vent changed to 3" elbow, can't control heat. Ideas?

Yes I removed the stock exhaust vent and inserted the elbow which I believe the mod says to do. In fact I posted asking that and was told 3 screws hold it in place, etc... Don't mostt smokers simply have a vent stack wide open and control temp with fire and input damper? I figured the mod...

MES 30 Gen 2 side vent changed to 3" elbow, can't control heat. Ideas?

I have the MES30 G2 and use an A-maze-N pellet maze, no problems there except the internal temp gauge is off according to my Maverick 732. With the side vent I was having trouble with back flows, etc based on wind direction. So I did the 3" flexible elbow mod which was easy and works like a...

MES 30 improvements on smoke consistency?

I have that same MES30 from Bass Pro, gen 2. To add the 3" elbow stack to the side vent do I take out the old vent? I don't have my smoker handy to check now, so how does the old side vent come out?

How long to smoke, not cook, a butt?

Well I used one row of hickory which ran about 3 hours. The butt cooked about 9 hours, and that was plenty of smoke for my tastes. Thanks for the answers!

How long to smoke, not cook, a butt?

Just got my A-Maze-N pellet maze and plan to do a butt to try it out in my MES30. How full should I fill the maze? I usually just smoke with chips and don't smoke for the entire cook, maybe the first half or so to not "over smoke". I figure this butt will cook @225 for 10 hours or so, how long...

    Hello from Florida.

Hi everyone. My name is Ray (AKA Stratmeister since I play mostly Fender guitars) and I admit I'm a smokeaholic. I live on the Treasure Coast of Florida in a small town named Sebastian. I have a MES30 gen 2, a Weber 22" kettle, and a big ol 5 burner gas grill. All the tools I need and can use...
