I brined a chicken yesterday in a 2.5 gallon Hefty bag (a neat trick I read on this forum) and instead of throwing it out, I turned it inside out and threw in the washer with a load of clothes. I let it air dry and Voila! Almost as good as new. I think I should be able to reuse it numerous times.
Thoughts on electric vs. propane. Can you put wood chunks in the fire box or does it have to be chips? How about brisket? The 16 X 14 seems a little small for brisket.
Thanks in advance.
I bought a 3'X3'X1' stack of apple for $25. Have to cut it up on the chop saw, but for $25 I don't mind.
Go to craigslist and key in BBQ. This is Wichita,KS not TX sorry.
I just want to say I really appreciate it when good deals are posted here. I bought 10 bags of Kingsford at Home Depot...
It would appear some prefer jelly roll style and others just wrap the sausage with the weave. Can anyone tell me the benefits of either style as I am getting ready to try my first one on Wednesday.
Thanks in advance.
I got a D-Link camera (@ $35 it was the cheapest I could find) got an iPhone app for free. I position the camera to "see" the receiver and I can now leave the house and keep an eye on the smoker and meat. On top of that it turns out it has a built in microphone too, which I didn't realize when I...
Can we agree on what temp is best? I see everywhere from 190 to 205. Does anyone trim the fat prior to smoking? There is a YouTube video where a guy swears by this and it would seem to take the rub better and there already is a lot of fat in the cut.
Thanks in advance.
I have read in a couple of places that bark causes acrid smoke. I would appreciate your comments. I have removed it, as best I can, on oak and hickory, but apple is really tough.
Thanks in advance.
Smoking a butt tomorrow and thought I would try the Myron Mixon way. His recipe calls for apple juice in an aluminum pan, which appears to be unhealthy. http://www.livestrong.com/article/284386-foods-that-will-react-with-aluminum-magnesium-pans/
I would appreciate any alternative suggestions...
I just got back from Dollar Tree where I purchased LA's Totally Awesome Grill & Oven Cleaner. I have a stainless steel perforated basket that I hose down with Pam prior to smoking. It went through the dishwasher three times and still had some grunge on it. This stuff took it right off. My...
I have seen several people suggest you keep the exhaust wide open during smoking. I have an Oklahoma Joe's and it is a challenge to hit 225 degrees with just adjusting the intake. Can someone please explain to me why you want your exhaust wide open?
I was crumpling up newspapers to start the charcoal today when in occurred to me that the wads of paper could be used to remove the stalactites from the inside of the grill. Was way quicker and easier than my brush.
I have an original Oklahoma Joes with a built in baffle plate. I am considering putting in tuning plates and wondered if I should extend the baffle down to ensure 100% flow underneath them.
Thanks in advance.
I realized I had not soaked my chips and the smoker was ready to go. I used jar sealer for my vacuum sealer and it worked like a charm! I know this because the water level dropped two inches in a couple of minutes indicating the chips were absorbing the water.
Have used an original Oklahoma Joes off and on for about 10 years now. My daughter gave me a copy of Smokfin' by Myron Mixon for Father's Day and it and this forum have really rekindled my interest. Trying all different kinds of meats, vegetables and woods. Still learning.
