Thanks Red,
I already called Tech support and it seemed the guy I was talking to wasn't very familiar with the PTG. I am going to keep testing it out and make sure I'm not doing something wrong. I'll try another thermometer too.
just got a used Traeger PTG today which is like brand new. Got it home and fired it up and when I turned it to high it never got above 300 to 350... I'm I doing something wrong? I followed the instructions and I own 2 other bigger Traeger grills so I'm familiar with how they work. Just...
Looking for other PTG users. I just got mine today used but like brand new. Turned it on and ran it up to high and couldn't get it over 300 to 350. Not real happy with that I have two other big pellet grills and they are wonderful. Anybody else have any input or advice?
Ah the hinged grill I forgot about that. That would allow you to drop in some new coal or wood or maybe stoke the fire if the grill rack was low enough or if you have a longer stoker rod...
So you have never had to restore more wood or coal into your drum? It sounds to me like you would load your basket up depending on what you're going to cook. Or is the drum just use for a long slow cooks?
I'm thinking about adding a UDS to the collection and got to wondering how you add more wood or coal to the bottom of the drum without removing the meat, racks and letting all the heat out. I've looked at some videos and didn't recall any access doors for wood at the bottom. I seems the only...
I like using mostly wood and I am getting practice and learning my smoker (Brinkmann TLE). My question is I have a nice thin blue smoke going and the temp needs to be maintained so when I add some wood which is usually oak and cured dry it will smoke white for a while until it burns down a bit...
Well folks I smoked nice 5 lb brisket today using mostly wood and finished up with some lump. Thank you all for letting me pick your brains for my dozen questions. Nice sunny day hanging outside all day watching the grand kids and the smoker... Oh did I mention the brisket came out great.
Thanks a lot Backwoods for all the advice. I went out today and got me a small load of oak about 7 months old and picked out pieces without bark. I hope you didn't mean I can't do any brisket on my Brinkmann TLE because I'm was planning on doing one all day Sunday.
I agree about the bark and I've seen some get the fire started with bark and all and during the cooking use the bark less dry wood. Thanks for the color advice.
Do you ever get wood from a guy that sells firewood and what color are you looking for? I'm thinking the wood that is more on the brown/tan side, dry, rater than the grey color of older wood would be the choice. Right or wrong...
Thanks for that advice. Your right I've seen so many on YouTube telling folks to close the stack down to control the temp (wrong)... I appreciate the advice from you folks that have been there and had success and failures. I'll be back with more questions...
