Regulators can sometimes cause a problem also, single stage regulators are known to fluctuate some but a needle valve is almost a requirement as the supplied knobs are generally pretty gross in their adjustments.
It goes between the regulator & the gas line. Nutshell it's (from tank to hose)
Regulator -> Needle valve -> gas line to smoker
Here's a picture of the regulator with a needle valve, in my case I changed this needle valve with the one I linked to above. In my particular case it required a 1/4"...

That's kind of the point/advantage. Weber has been in business a long time & they continue to make parts for early model grills (they don't change too much either). Not many brands where you can get parts for a 15 year old grill. It's definitely a comfort factor, no matter what comes up a) Weber...
That's my point............I know they fail (I'm okay with that) & you can work around it but it's not a "go to Home Depot" & replace part (or order online). Guess I'm just spoiled by the ease of which one can acquire parts for a Weber.

Yeah....if they'd only let us design a unit - maybe I'd find one that was 100% perfect I also noticed it "only" has a 20lb hopper.
Depending on the person - given the FEC's can do 4 or so butts, 8 racks, and some others it's not the largest but it will work for me.
I'd say middle price of the American made units - $1,500 for the 500 & $2,500 for the 1000.

I remember reading that thread, it pushed me in the direction of Camp Chef. That replacement & the melted replacement = good customer service, I viewed that as a major positive.

That's the only temp (& above) I could get any smoke.........less than 250 & the chips looked like they came out of the bag. Maybe a higher pre-heat, get the chips/chunks going & then lower it. I'll also have to figure out the temp issue........constant fiddling to avoid a rising/falling temp...
