Once the fire is to temp in my smoker I find that I'm burning 2 or 3, 1-1/2" splits every 20mins or so.
It was more than that prior to me tacking a piece of 6mm steel sheet onto the round top of the firebox to make preheating the wood easier (was hard to stack the pieces on a curved top). I...
Baffle meaning the floor/divider between the smoke chamber/cooking area and the firebox (on a reverse flow offset).
Obviously in this case if the baffle/floor is too low the fire may not draw very well due to the restriction.
FWIW, I just realised that I wrote that around the wrong way.
Should be "A mate of mine built one years ago and started with the baffle at 1/4 of the smoke chamber and he said it wasn't ideal. He then modified it to be 1/3 and it works great now."
The original baffle I cut and trial fitted was...
Thanks, Yeah the door is a pleasure to open and close now. Incidentally, the latch on the backside of the handle actually seems to work better now as well. I think because there is probably more clearance due to the hinge design now.
The handle for moving the smoker was going to just be the...
First cook with the new door hinge.
Sometimes it's all about the small things, can't believe I persevered with the brass hinge :emoji_laughing:
Bit of an experimental cook today.
"Bolognase mince" (beef and pork), carrots, peas, potato, cheese and Italian pork sausages.
I call it "Pigs...
Bit of an evolutionary post on the "bicycle smoker"...
I originally had a brass hinge which over time has gotten more stiff and seized, so went with a piece of 16mm bar bent into a "U" and some 5/8ths flange nuts.
Now the door is removable and it will never give me the shits by seizing up.
I'm always on the lookout for fallen limbs after windy days.
Scored this today, found it fallen across a public bike/walking track.
The way I see it I was doing the general public a solid by removing it from the path.
I never used the calculators (didn't know they existed) when I build my reverse flow.
A mate of mine built one years ago and started with the baffle at 1/3 of the smoke chamber and he said it wasn't ideal. He then modified it to be 1/4 and it works great now.
I took that on board and did the...
Sound theory in my opinion. And worth a go for sure, especially since you have some spare time.
I'm a fitter and turner by trade and my welding skills are suspect also, but give it a crack.
My only suggestion is to make the baffle at least 1/3 of the smoke chamber area.
My offset firebox has...
