I snagged one as well. I couldn't pass that deal up. It's still in the box awaiting some free time to build it. I also purchased a 40 lb bag of CookinPellets off of Amazon. I'm running out of room on my patio!
It'll be fun to learn how to use a pellet burner and compare the results.
I could never even get mine to turn on to burn off the manufacturing oil and do the initial seasoning. The controller would turn off somewhere between setting the temperature or setting the time. It would never get to the point of actually heating up.
It's child's play compared to what you've already done. If they send you the body kit you'll have to transfer the front door, (hardest part but very simple) I think I just removed the lower door hinge on both and reinstalled once I got the door swapped over. The other items are easy...
I know it must sound crazy but I don't have a grand plan yet. It really depends on how this weekend evolves with the family. I can always do some baby backs or a pork shoulder for pulled pork.
I really got the electric smoker to do things like smoked fish (both hot and cold), jerky, cheese...
I received the body kit. For anyone who may want to know in the future, the body kit does not come with the front door (the hinge points are there though), chip loader, chip tray, grates, water pan, or the inside grease pan. It also does not come with the top mounted controller or the rear...
That's the plan! It's going to be a little electronics science project to do with my son. I've already ordered a PID controller along with a thermocouple, SSR and heat sink. I'm am looking for any and all helpful input as to how to wire it all up!
Thanks!
Update:
I received the body kit today and it works just fine with the old controller. So it wasn't the controller after all it is something in the body. I have a feeling there is something wrong with the potted circuit card on the bottom of the smoker.
So the good news is that I can start...
Awesome, your weather is pretty close to mine. So you're actually in Canada. I'm north of Seattle in the Snohomish area.
Yeah mine acted strange from the get-go. As soon as I powered it up the temperature display would show an ambient temp and then something close to freezing. Sometime between...
I am very happy that you found a solution that works for you. I may have to try using a hair dryer (on cold) on mine. However mine has NEVER worked, not once. I am still awaiting parts from Masterbuilt.
Living in Washington State most homes DO NOT have air conditioners to include my house. I'm...
I'm interested in this setup. Do you happen to have any pictures of the build process and/or any links to the specific products that need to be purchased? I can wire things up no problem. I just need to know what parts I need, how to connect them together and how to interface it into the smoker...
Everything I've seen so far indicates that you have a controller on the fritz. I got a new 40" for Fathers Day and it does the same thing. I never even got to season it. Mine turns off randomly between the time when I turn it on to the time I try entering a cook time. I can never even get it to...
I'd be interested in what you've been able to come up with. I may end up doing that myself.
There HAS to be someone who knows what fails on the MES controllers. Especially since so many of them show the same symptoms.
I'm curious if anyone has figured out what is the root cause of the generation 1ish top mounted controllers with the rounded edges to fail? Specifically the fault where it turns off by itself when attempting to power on and or set time and temperature. Surely with all of these users having...
Thank you. Looks like they are currently out of the over temp switch and the picture of the spade connector appears to be wrong. It should be a barrel according to the Google search I did for Supco T1113.
Did you solder yours on?
