The stem was growing out of the base of a stump. So im stumped.... but i took some and smoked up some peppers last night so we will see what she does.....
Yeah this little stem out of the stump has thrown me for a loop.... ive heard willow.... walnut... i dunno. Way up here i hav never seen a walnut tree its very cold half the year.
I bought a bunch of wood from an arbourist that said was manitoba maple.... im up in canada. And i find this little stem on one of the stumps that dont look quite right.... so i thought i would throw this out here.... what could this wood be?
I pray its a smoking wood.... i bought a splitter...
Hey all!
I just ended up with a load of maple wood from a tree cutter that did an old yard full of maple trees. Seems to smoke and smell like the maple chunks ive bought. Its for sure hard as well. Just want to know its safe to use in my stick burner as fruitwood is next to impossible to find...
Thanks a bunch guys! Im in love with it. Been tweeking and looking for better wood now. Out in the praries fruit wood is few and far between. She held the temp awesome for 12 hrs straight without having to mess with it much just using charcoals and applewood sticks with the odd birch. Dont know...
So after a good 2 days burn in and working out the kinks i finally got to throw a BBQ for the family on the new grill. I am in love with this thing!!!! My first stick burner and i am just so impressed. Heats evenly burns nice and clean and dont take too much to keep her going! The brisket was on...
Awesome advice kam! Thats gonna be the plan. Did the burn in and season tonight and shes rolling like a boss! Got temps dialed in even with a 2" deep waterbath over the baffle. Pretty happy even with the leaky door. So once thats fixed were gold!
Dave you can really tell with those small top...
Hey dave. Thats great to hear! Its my first build so im learning fast lol i did top and bottom vents as it just made sense when i was reading. Ill know by the weekend how she burns i hope. For sure going to have to do an rtv gasket tube on the cc door as the bow has made everything just a hair...
Another great day in the weldbay! Got alot more done. I took the damn door off and have it clamped with heat. Hope she straightens out! Getting pretty excited for my first burn in!
How hot do you run it and for how long?
Also how long does the stack have to be? It seems excessive but thats...
That is actually Damn good advice kam59! Im going to take it off and do it in the table! The hinges arent 100% and the door still has a twang to her. It went sideways before i had even cut half the door out so the tank was probably stretched and tacked/ welded to begin with. I had to use a...

Wish i would have checked this before i went in today. She warped like a bugger lol not loving the standard weld on hinges either.... but thats where were at today. Gotta find a good stack now and get all the small stuff done. I used a 2" high flat bar for the waterbath is that standard?
I got my tank today so im gonna be cutting and building right away. Its a 5 foot by 20 inch tank overall so im pretty sure the firebox is a good size? Also planning a 4 inch pipe exhaust so i hope thats enough! Any insight would be greatly appreciated probaly start building this weekend.
Still new here but ive been reading alot trying not to jam the place up with too many questions. I am building my firebox right now. I went 22" ×22" × 20 high. Vent is a foot give or take. Im still looking for a 60-75gal tank to mate with it. How does it look so far? Any suggestions? Going to...
I got a couple packer briskets on saturday and did one whole and one just the flat. Now i have a nice looking point in the fridge left over in a ziploc and no free days to smoke it for 2 weeks maybe 3. I have aged plenty of primal cuts in a second fridge i have downstairs so this is not the fear...
