I finally completed all the modifications to my Bradley Smoker. I added a PID controller, 1200W heating element (w/SSR) and a convection fan. Overall I am very pleased with smoker.....the mods fix many of the short comings of a stock unit.
The PID controller is a JLD612 which drives a 25A...
The pucks burn real nice, just a little faster then an original. The DIY pucks burn more completely, where the oem pucks tend to have a lot of waste.
Bradley claims the partial burn and dunking them in water prevents acrid smoke....I'm not sure what to think about that.
I recently purchased a used Bradley Smoker and quickly decided I wanted to make my own Bisquettes. I did this for couple of reasons; cost, alternate wood types and it's a lot of fun to make them.
Searching the internet, I found a variety of different recipes to make and form pucks for the...
Hi all,
I joined this forum awhile back but didn't do much smoking. I have a renewed interest in smoking after purchasing a used Bradley. I already own a Trager pellet grill which I really enjoy cooking with but find it's not much of a smoker without using a smoke tube or other smoke...
Installed the heater assembly today. The black material is a high temp fiberglass type material I had left over from a previous project.....this will prevent heat transfer from the element to the chassis.
I hear you....off grid can be fun. We do a lot of trips with our XP900 SXS, you gotta haul it......so it's toy haulers, generators and all the other stuff that goes with it.
BTW, you can't even hear a Honda 2000 if it's ~15ft away
I used 5052 because it bends easy and I had some on-hand....I also have some 6061 but it is tough to bend without cracking. I would have liked to use SS but it meant a trip the the steel yard.
I am not too worried about corrosion....I can always replace the shelf supports if necessary.
Thanks...
After a little break I am finally back at my smoker project.
Installed the shelf supports and the convection fan.
The fan is from a JennAir oven....it fits perfect.
I ordered the racks from amazon, they are made from heavy gauge 304 SS with 3/8" grid. ~$20ea
My smoker is sized to take standard sized cooling racks and "half sheet" baking (drip pan) for easy low cost replacement in the future.
I am pretty new to the smoke'n scene....my only experiences have been with a "Little Chief" smoker my dad gave me years ago.
My fascination with smoking was reignited a few weeks back after my younger brother brought his Bradley smoker along on our 4-wheeling trip. My experience with smoking...
Hi All,
I am from Minnesota and fairly new to smoking. I have used smokers a few times in the past (mainly for fish) but consider myself a newbie.
My fascination with smoking was reignited a few weeks back after my younger brother brought his Bradley smoker along on our 4-wheeling trip. My...
