    Portable Digital Propane UDS

Todd was right.  The propane sucked up too much oxygen so I will have to put the AMNPS in it's own compartment.  The pid and thermopile run gas valve worked great.  With a pan of sand it would cycle about once a minute.

    UDS from Sweden

Great idea using the shelf brackets.  I often use 2 grates for the meat and being able to adjust the spacing would help a lot.  My next UDS will use that idea.  My current one has so many holes that have been plugged after trying different ideas I should probably build another.  My current setup...

    Portable Digital Propane UDS

I have 3 1 inch holes available for outside air from the original UDS setup, and the burner is fed by an outside venturi so I am hoping between the combination I will have enough oxygen.  I guess the only way to find out is to try it.  Thanks for your input!

    Portable Digital Propane UDS

Converted my UDS to a portable digital propane UDS.   My UDS has been used for about 4 years.   I used a PID to control a fan to control the temperature.   This worked great for long smokes.   You could set the temp and leave.   The problem was when I had smokes where I had to open the smoker to...

    Converting UDS

I am with you on the rubs.  Mine is fairly basic equal parts of chili powder, cumin, paprika, onion, garlic, coriander, pepper and 1.5 times salt.  If I want it a little hotter I substitute some Cayenne for some of the pepper.  I add a little brown sugar after the rub has been applied.  Isn't...

    Converting UDS

I smoke a lot of cheese using the AMNPS.  At work whenever I am going to do cheese I send out an email because it doesn't matter if your doing 1 lb or 15 lbs.  Just did a pork butt last week for a send off for someone retiring from out department.  Love to do ribs chicken, brisket, fish (white...

    Converting UDS

I am currently retired military (23 years active duty and 6 years Air National Guard) and for the last 15 years have been a computer programmer.  I live in Sioux Falls with my wife of 38 years and have a 25 year old son.  I have been smoking for about 4 years with a UDS that I am currently...

    Digital temp mod

I don’t want to hijack this thread but I am somewhat on the same track.   I’ve been smoking for about 4 years now with a UDS controlled with a PID.   Works great until you have to open the lid and let in 55 gal of air.   The temp then spikes 50 – 80 degrees and takes about ½ hour to stabilize...
