We've had a YS640 for a few years now, with all the trimmings (WFO, rotis, griddle, etc), love it. Disclaimer: we don’t tend toward meteorite brisket/pork butts or chicken that rolled around in an ashtray. That said, I love smoke as an ingredient.
To your question, I’d put my food up against...
Just a thought if you want to try one more time: 3M 5200. It’s a 1-part polyurethane marine sealant that cures underwater, remains flexible, etc. Comes in any color you want as long as you want white or black. It’s extremely tenacious; make sure you’re gloved-up and don’t get it on anything you...
I’m not sure how many YS640 owners we have here, but if you have any questions on how it performs ‘real-world’ simply ask and I’ll do my best. Yes it’s pricey, especially with the accessories (the pizzas are outstanding!) but you’ll use it forever. With the 10ga steel, it holds well and is as...
Actually, it’s not bad. The hopper is comfortable height and I use a ice (or kibble) scoop
To scoop pellets into a kitty-litter jug. The jug can be returned to its container in the garage
The small amount left in the bottom of the hopper is used up when pre-heating.
If all the “latest&greatest” appeals and you plan on upgrading every 3-4 years or so, the Yoder isn’t for you. There’s undoubtedly shiny stuff on the horizon and especially for pellet newbies a shorter view makes sense.
Pls understand, I’m not dissing; my RT680 was my first pellet and served its...
Had a RecTec RT-680 for years, did all the upgrades. Good smoker but couldn’t get it above 375F (took hours to get there). When it died we got the YS640 with all the trimmings. VERY well built. It literally does everything from 190F low&slow to 900+F in the pizza attachment to open fire grilling...
I just moved the bird. It was very easy to open the deflector firebox door, loosen the tine nuts and slide the bird over the firebox.
I’m rarely an ‘early adopter’ but ordered the kit when first announced back in October, the idea was to spin T’Day turkey. Alas, delivery was delayed (my...
Arrived too late for T’Day but just in time for NYE. Installation was easy, drilled hole with supplied step bit
The rest of the setup
Decided to do a ‘test’ run with chicken. First, a simple brine
Seasoned up with Yardbird and Lemon Pepper and ran it through
Placed a couple RFX...
My Better Half (blesshersweetheart) decided to give me a break this year and ordered a pre-smoked (cooked) Prime Rib online (from a reputable purveyor; we’ve been very happy with the meats we’ve ordered in the past).
I followed the reheat instructions to the letter (no additional seasoning...
For me a small footprint is vital. Our chamber vac lives on our all-too-precious countertop real estate where it gets used daily. Probably wouldn’t use near as much if I had to drag it out.
Ours is the MYM oilless, no complaints, replaced our FS simply bc the chamber lives on the counter; FS is...
Since my previous post, I've ‘converted’ to RFX & Gateway (there’s plenty posts covering them), never looked back. Meater2+ and its annoying app have been relegated to the Round pile. The ThermoWorks RFX app is not ideal but far better than the Meater.
As I see it, it’s a two-step habit. I use the old wire bristle number for cleaning while the grill is still hot (ok, when I’m not rushed). I’ll give it a quick hit while the grill is heating, but then right before the food goes down I’ll swab the deck with oiled paper towel or onion in bbq tongs.
