Like many introduced species, they came into the country on plant material through ports on the East coast. As they move westward, the population lessens from where they started.

I keep mine in a run. I ran the fence wire out along the ground about 3 feet out and laid flat rock on top of the fence wire. If anything tries to dig into the run, they have a ways to go and will likely be found out before completing their excavation.
