    Pissed off co-worker :(

I get the same sentiments with brewing... and no, people do not appreciate the amount of time it takes to make something of quality. I do medieval reenacting and one beverage I produce for that is mead. It's a honeywine if you've never heard of it. It's an amazing drink, but takes a minimum...

    Aloha Fatty

Gotta ask because I don't recall seeing powdered honey anywhere - where's a good place to get it? This looks great, BTW... almost a dessert fatty.

    How bout applejack?

Talking about hard cider? I'll be making a batch once it cools off a bit more here in the South. Here's what I usually do for cider - 5 gallon batch. 4 gallons of apple cider/juice - just make sure there are no preservatives in it (potassium 'anything' in the ingredients list). If you're...

    free prep table

Gotta love anything in stainless steel.... Blackhawk... if you'll take 231 north of Wetumpka (past the prison), there's a place on the right that has a fenced in area full of nice stainless steel restaurant stuff - tables, sinks, shelves, all kinds of things. Never have seen a name on the...

    Acu-Rite #21025 Digital Themometer

Meowey had the same thought - looks like the Pyrex model I use for brewing. Great thermometer... may have to get another one. Thanks for the Lowes ref!

Something new? Scotch Fatty with pics

Saw this thread referenced elsewhere on SMF... had to look this up. I LOVE Scotch Eggs, they're always a *must-have* for lunch at any Highland Games... had made Scotch Eggs before and deep fried them, but this is much better... Thanks!

    Chicken Parts w/Dutch's Baked Beans

I forget that a lot of the folks on the SMF aren't from the sunny South... if you're ever traveling on I-65, stop in Millbrook, AL to visit Smokehouse BBQ... fried okra is one of the sides... good Q, too... Or if you're traveling on a Tuesday, stop in Montgomery for the Capitol House Inn...

    New vacuum sealer

Love my vacuum sealer... great way to buy veggies in season and then freeze... also great for traveling. I also use mine for buying large volumes of hops for brewing beer, then measuring out the amounts I typically need and vacuum sealing them.

    Finally - first smoke....

We finally had a weekend day free to stay home to do our first smoke... ABTs of three different peppers, one fatty, a rack of drumsticks, and some country-style ribs... Brined the chicken overnight, and the drumstick rack is a wonderful thing! Thanks to whoever posted about that... found it...

    Beer Pairings

Blackhawk, you have much more of a selection that just that, even in Trojan country. I just moved from Montgomery last October, so let me give ya a rundown. You can still get Guinness (Extra Stout and Draught), Bass, Amstel Light, Newcastle Brown, all of the Sam Adams standard varieties (love...

I found some apple wood for free

Smokefreak, whoever wrote that may have had some coniferous species for all we know... some folks just don't know their trees. Sassafras has been used for ages for teas, oils, flavorings and all kinds of things... if you'll look online, you can buy sassafras chunks and chips from all sorts of...

I found some apple wood for free

Hey! I haven't used it yet... a co-worker picks up dry sassafras twigs during turkey season, soaks the twigs and adds it to his grill in the last 20 minutes or so... says it adds a nice subtle nutty flavor. I missed the sassafras smoked wild turkey at the company Christmas party :( So when...

I found some apple wood for free

Free wood is always good. We've got a crabapple in the back yard... been looking it over to see which limbs might need trimming. :) Also picked up some sassafras the other day... for my day-job I end up on timber logging job sites quite often and they're usually kind enough to cut up some...

    Newbie from Alabammer

Hey Pigiron... I'm a Bama native and lived in the 'Barner's back yard for a while (Montgomery for 10 years) - since then I've only strayed 37 miles from the state line... ;) Welcome to the forum... nice looking smoker! Jocosa

Debi and I could compare notes on brewing for sure... I've been brewing for 5 years, do AG darks and prefer to batch sparge... About to finish up my first keggle.... 10 gallon batches, here I come... Dawg - followed my heart and moved here last October... still learning my way around town...

    Hey from Georgia

Hey from Jocosa in Georgia... used an ECB as a grill when I was in college, but guess that doesn't count... :) My fiance and I just bought a 16" GOSM, we'll get it fired up and seasoned after I return from a work trip to AR/MS/AL... We enjoy outdoor cooking, this has evolved over time...
